We followed our hearts to live a life with more freedom
If you don’t know our story yet, we started our journey to full time RV living in 2018, after my husband lost his job unexpectedly. At first, we didn’t know what to do. After some thought, we saw it as an opportunity for taking the leap of faith and following our hearts to live a life with more freedom. We had already been tossing the idea around, and now we had the chance with the business we ran on the side. It was time to see that dream of making it full time a reality. We decided to go for it. We’ve been living the full time RV life for just over two years now, and we’re still loving the path of freedom and more adventures.
Would We Do it all Over Again?
The question, if we had the chance, would we do it all over again? The answer is absolutely, yes! Yes, there might be times that things are more difficult living in an RV, but the life it has given us, and the adventures we’ve been on, I couldn’t see it any other way now. When we do put down some roots and get a house again, we’ll always have an RV to travel in. I wouldn’t want to go about it any other way now. Being able to prepare our own healthy food while we’re on the go has been so nice. Being vegetarian (mostly vegan), finding healthy food on the road that’s as good as the food we can make at home can be difficult to say the least. Plus, we don’t make near as many stops having all our own facilities on board.
What Do We Miss the Most?
You may ask, what do we miss the most? Above all, we miss our family and friends the most since we’ve been traveling. Most of all, we miss our traditions we had with them before we went full time. Then, with Covid-19 this year, we didn’t get to visit many of our loved ones when we did travel back home. That was really hard. We are looking forward to seeing everyone again.
Our son has some very close friends that he’s had since he was in preschool and I don’t want those friendships to fade as they get older because we aren’t around. That’s something we do think about, but with technology nowadays, they can stay in touch easier. The good thing is, he has made some great friends through RVing. There is a real sense community in the full time RVing world and many people will treat you like family.
Since we love to cook, we also miss having a dishwasher and more counter space. We miss our bookshelves too! We love our books! Finding places for all of them, including our homeschooling curriculum, can be a bit much in an RV.
We’ve seen so much of our beautiful country over these last two years, we wouldn’t change it for anything. The adventures we’ve been on and all the places we’ve explored will forever be etched in our hearts. We chose this path because we felt it was the best path to living life on our own terms. This has allowed us to create so much in our life, and it’s not just about being a travelpreneur. It represents the idea of taking the leap of faith to follow your heart. That is exactly what we did and that’s what I hope to inspire others to do at Rhi-Writing Life, and why I share these experiences with you. If I came to a place to think like this and live life with intention, anyone can do it.
Is there anything we would do differently if we had to do it all over again? Yes! The one thing we would do differently is, we would’ve done it much earlier in life, when we and our son, were younger.
